Over the last year or so I really struggled with some unhealthy emotions. I found myself waking up some days with a dreadful case of the sadness. Some mornings I just felt such a heaviness on my way into work but then I remembered a childhood favorite song that I still love dearly today. In 1982 Neil Diamond did a song called Heartlight. It was a huge hit and when I heard it back then as a young boy I felt like everything was going to be okay, and I felt loved. To this day as a grown man I still love this song dearly. but the embrace of that message inspired this song. In the first verse of One More Breath I sing "I don't want to be a new sensation, I don't want to be the next Neil Diamond, a Heartlight is burnin' deep inside me, I wanna' tell you where it comes from baby". That heart light friend is the love and touch from Jesus, from His Holy Spirit that gives us beauty for ashes and joy for the spirit of heaviness, and I wanted a way to share that with you! I cried out to God for a song that I could sing to remind us of how deeply He loves and desires for us to experience that fulness of joy in this life right now with Him. It started simply with the chorus and then branched out from there. I find when I sing the songs He gives me it brings me in close to Him and I feel sustained, renewed and overjoyed. What a beautiful gift. If you struggle today my prayer is that this song will speak to you and bring you into a better place right now.
